Artist Statement

It all begins with the ground. I build it up with materials at hand, using scraps of paper, acrylic medium, floor sweepings, and more, applying it on wood panels. I then paint and further manipulate the field until I feel a connection in some way to the surface. The panel at this point often suggests my next step, or the focus. My imagery varies from abstract, to primitive, to representational. Lately, world events have taken over my psyche, including wild weather patterns, and environmental disasters, caused both naturally and by man. Somewhere, there is beauty and peace within the chaos in our environment, and I seek that place in my painting.
