Artist Statement

Carol Lee Shanks works with cloth allowing it to be her inspiration and guide. Sewing is Carol’s primary activity. She has been creating clothing and textile art pieces most of her life. Carol’s most recent fiber series – “From the Remains” makes use of the trimmed pieces of cloth saved after constructing her 2011 Fall fashion collection. The pieces you see in the gallery are hand stitched, pierced and embellished using natural fibers, shell and bamboo.
