Artist Statement

In the course of my years as an oil painter I have moved through a broad spectrum of objective and non-objective subjects. In 2010 I began to explore the drawn line in various iterations. After experimenting with layered, repeated calligraphic lines, my attention expanded to include other approaches to the line. I have recently been exploring fine, layered, circular lines in graphite and oil, as well as the use of repeated parallel lines to evoke topographic contours, geologic forms, aerial views, wave swells, plowed fields and other patterns in the natural environment. I work on aluminum panel, making use of its inherent reflectivity to highlight the drawing. My practice is driven by an interest in materials, process and experimentation.
